The other night, while staying up way too late scrolling through TikTok, a video about a deer stopping traffic popped up and caught my attention. Go ahead and take a minute to watch this video.

At the end of the video, TikToker @itsnickholiday posed a thought about how often do we listen to our instincts and the surroundings around us. This is definitely a Disney-esque heart-warming story. But more than that, it really made me question whether I would have taken the time to trust and follow that deer.
“You have to trust in something, your gut, destiny, life, karma, whatever. This approach has never let me down, and it has made all the difference in my life.”
-Steve Jobs
I think I have a good intuition, but I’m not sure I listen to it enough. I’ll often find myself preoccupied by what-if’s or consumed by what others might think or say. How many times have I ignored or pushed aside by own instinct because of what a boss, colleague, customer, expert, or even what the numbers/data has said?
Our ability to listen to, trust, and follow our own instinct is important in all areas of our life, including in business. Successful business leaders like Richard Branson and Oprah Winfrey have stated that they rely on gut instinct to help drive business decisions. Finding the awareness and balance of instinct in your decisions is critical. Unfortunately it tends to be an undervalued and overlooked skill that we should pay more attention to developing.
When was the last time you recognized and trusted a gut instinct? How did you acknowledge it? Are there areas of your life - personal or professional - that you could benefit from honing your intuition more?
